In the 50th anniversary commemorative video that was shown, employees and Director Choi Young-cheol of the Special Business Division recalled proud memories and expressed their hopes for the development of the business.
“Our track shoe business has achieved remarkable growth over the past 50 years by prioritizing trust and innovation,” said CEO Shin Chai-ho in his commemorative speech. “As the status of the K-defense industry rises, we will lead the global market by strengthening our production capabilities and focusing on developing products optimized for future combat vehicles.”
LS Mtron has supplied all of its track shoes for main battle tanks, armored personnel carriers, and self-propelled howitzers to the Ministry of National Defense for 50 years, since starting its military track shoe business in 1974. The company began developing Korean-style track shoes in the mid-1980s, and successfully developed the K9 self-propelled howitzer track shoe, Korea's first independently designed track shoe, in 1998. Since the development of the K2 main battle tank track shoe in 2008, LS Mtron has further grown its business and achieved great results in the track shoe technology export sector, winning the Minister of National Defense Award as an excellent defense industry exporter in 2013.
Along with recent export contracts for Korean weapons systems to European countries such as Poland, LS Mtron's track shoe business is also showing growth. LS Mtron is the only company in the world with independent design and development capabilities for Korean-type, American-type, and Russian-type military track shoes. Building on these capabilities, the company is able to produce country-specific customized track shoes and exports its products to over 40 countries. The company showcased its technological prowess at Eurosatory 2024, the world's largest defense exhibition, in June, and plans to use this as an opportunity to accelerate its entry into the global defense market.
